2019-2020 Presidential Elections
We formed cities in the first half, so we had mayors. Our cities are now growing into city-states or civilizations. The entire 6th grade S.S. curriculum is based on starting civilizations, so we are doing starting our own. We just finished our debates on which government to have so the next step is to elect the leaders of each countries government. I had 2 classes that had monarchy win, 1 other class had theocracy as their government of choice, and the final 3 classes chose democracies. Each leader had a running mate so they had to choose wisely. Overall it was a huge success, now they will have to keep their civilization running smoothly while not going bankrupt. Then they will have to create their civilizations on Minecraft while trying to thrive as they will match up against each other in a Civilization Simulation Competition.
2019 Primary Elections!!!
A new year brings in a new election!!! Mayor 2019-2020
WOW!!! This might be the year of the best opening mayor elections ever. Everyone brought their A game and made each individual election some of the closest in the history of these elections in my classroom. The speeches were tremendous, the posters were creative and amazing, while the bribes were some of the tastiest ever. Overall, I am pretty sure that all involved had a super time. Thank you to everyone who took the chance to run for mayor.

Elections For High Priestess and Chancellor
By: Abby Homan, Grace Jolliffe, Trey Woodyard, and Jordan Hildebrand
It all started on Wednesday the 14th, in 2nd period Social Studies. It was time to elect a High Priest or Priestess and a Chancellor. After we all gave our speeches it was time to vote. The next day in 2nd period we found out it had been a tie between Jordan and Trey and Grace and Abby. We were all very surprised it was a perfect tie between Grace and Abby and Jordan and Trey. So, Gov. Watson told us to get prepared again so we could do a second election on Friday the 16th. So, on Friday each team did their speech and then it was time to vote again. After everyone voted and we double checked it twice we still ended up with a perfect tie!
So, Gov. Watson gave us a few choices, drop your Chancellors and rotate high priest and priestess every week OR do a coin toss. After both teams argued and talked about each option we decided to do what the class wanted, a coin toss. We got a coin and decided we would do best 2 out of 3. The first time Jordan’s team called heads and the coin, well it landed on tails. 1 for Grace’s team! Then we did the second round, Grace’s team called tails again. The coin.... landed on heads. 1 point for Jordan’s team. It was the final round we were all on the edges of our seats, it was 2-2. For the final round Jordan called heads again. As we waited we all were going crazy. Then the coin landed and it was on..... Tails!! Grace and Abby won the coin toss 3-2. Grace became High Priestess and Abby became the Chancellor!

New Leader elections
I decided to change things up with the mayor elections in 2015. September Mayor Elections 2014

January Mayor Elections 2014
In the first week back from Winter Break, we had our mid-term mayor elections. This is the last election of the school year. I put restrictions on the amount of bribes that they were allowed to bring in for this election, unlike the first. All of the candidates and their campaign managers did an amazing job, and yes as in the real world, they are NOT allowed to change the name of their classroom city. The picture to the left shows how the citizens voted for the mayor. I have perfected the voting by computer. I used to use paper, now, every voter goes to a select few computers in the classroom and get to vote via technology. I also have my volunteers standing by to help prevent any voter fraud. They are also able to assist any voter that may have troubles. The volunteers call up the voters as each computer becomes available. In the slideshow below, I am showing pictures of candidates and campaign managers as they give speeches, pass out bribes, and show off posters.
2013 September Mayor Elections
This year I had more food (bribes) brought in for the elections than almost all of the other years combined. This is a picture of some of the awesome treats brought in the morning before the elections. I also had items in my cabinets, and I had parents bringing in things throughout the day. I always enjoy seeing all of the hard work that goes into getting the campaigns up and running along with the final products. Thank you to all of the family and friends that helped out with the campaigns. I appreciate how tough it is to attempt something so difficult at the start of the new school year. Whether they became mayor or not, they all did an amazing job!!! Our next election is in January 2014.
Here are some cool election videos
